There’s such a range of horse events on in Australia! No matter what style of riding you’re into or what level you’re at.
Australia’s lucky to be one of the few countries that compete in the international rodeo circuit (the USA, Canada, Hawaii and New Zealand are the others). So keep your eye out for Western events near you. Rodeos bring you all the grit, the colour and the excitement that can’t be found at any other type of horse events – a real contest where men and beasts fight for dominance, or contests where horse and rider work as a smooth team.
At the more sedate end of the horse events spectrum, dressage and the showing ring are a chance to show the finesse and beauty of the horse in a place where turnout and good manners are everything. A dressage competition is one place where you will see horses dance.
Horse events come for all ages. The traditional Pony Club gymkhanas are fun events with hilarious novelty events such as egg and spoon races on horseback, sack races and more.
The list of horse events seems endless! There’s flat racing, steeplechasing, harness racing (trotting and pacing), showjumping, three-day events, endurance riding, rodeos, driving and more.
